My Mother Tongue

You talk to me of language
Of mother tongue
Mother tongue?
What’s my mother tongue?
What language I used to speak?
May be it has taken
Or swollen
By a language
Named English

You talk to me of language
Of English
We all do speak English
But …
Have you forgotten?
Your mother
Your tongue
Your mother tongue
Where do you put it?
Where do you drop it?
Where?
Somewhere there,
Between the English

Don’t talk to me of language
For I thought I have forgotten
Forgotten my tongue
My mother tongue

But, listen…
Listen to the song I heard
Listen …
Carefully

Reminds me of my mother tongue

Sing to me more…
Speak to me even more
With our tongue
You’ll find it is there

Don’t ever lose it
Don’t ever forget it
Do not ever!

Think of your mother tongue proudly
Speak it loudly!

This is the miss interpreted poem for I thought that the assignment is about mother tongue.
and this poem inspires by Sujata Bhatt with her poem 'search for my tongue'

‘We are JAVANESE’

We were walking together
Down to the misty evening road
At the market
Where people gather
Talking of ‘Wedang Ronde’
While we conjure
The taste of ‘Whisky’
The road was crowded
By people wearing ‘batik’
While we felt lost
In the crowd
For we were wearing
Prada’s Summer Cloth
Don’t you feel embarrassed?
To be seen as stranger
In your own home
Now tell us…
Who is the singer they are talking about?
Nurjanah…
Didi Kempot…
We have no idea!
For we were talking about
Lady Gaga and Katy Perry all the time
What’s now?

Sing to me a song…
Listen …
            Listen…
                        Listen…
                                    Listen …
                                                Listen!
That’s what we are,
Javanese…
Who’s just come back to our mother land
From the land of English
And listen to us now
For we will speak it loudly
We are Javanese…
And we are proud to be Javanese
In English…

this is a poem that I wrote in a hurry due to Cross Cultural Understanding's assignment.
my group and I had already prepared a poem actually but we got it wrong because we miss interpret the assignment :D
so this is our last minute poem..and I'll post the 'wrong' poem after this...
this poem inspires by Kenneth Wee's 'Festival'

I’m trying to sleep

I try to sleep
But I can’t sleep
“why don’t you try counting sheep?”
Because I’m waiting my phone beep

Once...

You sing to me a song
All night long
Some old songs
You bring from an old lounge
Recording your voice in my head
Saving the songs in my heart
            “don’t stop now”
            Keep singing
            And let me bow
            Before you go
But you stop singing now
and I know
you’re singing for another sparrow

Nonsense

I do remember
That night in the park
When the day’s dark
And we talk
about ‘Jack and the Bean Stalk’
we don’t know what it is about
            but we keep talking
            until you shout
            ‘that was nothing!’

Call the Summer Back

Summer...
call them come sooner
needed more than the heat of the fire
I am tired of the fire
more than everything,
the sun tho'
always be missed
stand right there in the rain!
                not again
                I am in pain
Rain...
pouring in the evening
with the wind moving its wings
                drop me again
                in the rain
                I am in pain
call for me the days
that summer days

Greetings

I'll greet you when the sun sank
at the edge of the ocean
with a cup of a good evening coffee

when the sky's dark
and lighten by the lamps of universe
when your eyes heavy and
the bed tempted with its dreaming blanket
thence, I'll greet you with a good night kiss

I'll greet you when the shiny light ball jump from the east
with a hot good morning tea
only you ask for a sandwich
hither your good morning sandwich

I'll greet you when the sun heat your head
and you drop a grain of sweat
with a glass of good afternoon lemonade

and I'll greet you now and then
to keep your lips wet
